Born in Los Angeles, California, October 5, 1939, the oldest of nine siblings, including half and step brothers and sisters. Raised in a non-religious, secular Jewish family in Southern California. Married, three adult children, two grandchildren. In the late 1960s, commenced a long, windy search for the truth about life, sojourning through psychedelia, eastern metaphysics, yoga and Buddhism. Ultimately, on March 12, 1983, was found by the truth in the person of Jesus Christ, fell in love with him, was born again into the family of God, and have thankfully and joyously followed him ever since. Graduated from Los Angeles High School, the oldest high school in the city, in 1957. Participated as a long jumper and hurdler on the track team, and was a member of the debating team. Inducted into the California Scholarship Federation as an honor student, and spoke at the graduation ceremony. Graduated with honors, Phi Beta Kappa, from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1961, majoring in political science, minoring in literature. Graduated with honors from Harvard Law School in 1964. Professional Background and Credentials Admitted to State Bar of California in January 1965, and have practiced continually in Los Angeles County through the present. Also admitted to practice before U.S. District Courts, Central and Northern Districts of California, Southern District of Texas; and U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit. Top AV rating in Martindale-Hubbell, the preeminent lawyer rating system. Proprietor of Terran T. Steinhart Law Offices, engaged in the general practice of law, with special emphasis on business, entertainment and personal injury litigation, trials and appeals in state and federal courts, and dispute resolution for Christian ministries, and occasional family law and criminal defense matters. Personally handled several thousand cases, primarily litigation and secondarily transactional matters, averaging about five contested trials per year, including several dozen jury trials in diverse business, entertainment, personal injury and criminal defense matters. Business and entertainment litigation matters include real estate, breach of contract, fraud, unfair competition, corporate and partnership disputes, recording artist contract accountings, and copyright, trademark and trade dress infringement. Personal injury matters include automobile accidents, medical malpractice, product liability, premises liability, and wrongful termination of employment. Personally handled approximately 25 appeals, including winning reported cases on behalf of appellants: Frances T. vs. Village Green Owners= Association (Calif. Supreme Court 1986) 42 C.3d 490; Columbia Record Productions vs. Hot Wax Records (represented Edward Holland of Holland, Dozier, Holland) (9th Cir. 1992) 966 F.2d 515. Master legal writer: since 1965, have personally researched and written thousands of pages of litigation, trial and appellate court documents, as well as contractual and transactional documents. Biblical scholar and author of several Biblical-based articles, pamphlets and booklets, including: "Love Never Fails" and "The Gospel Truth About Life and Death". Since 1983, have represented various Christian ministers and ministries, among which are noted Christian leaders: Demos Shakarian, founder of Full Gospel Business Mens Fellowship International; Arthur Blessitt, world-wide street evangelist; and Raimundo Jimenez, Latin American evangelist. Career Development Affiliations 1964-1966: Associate with Swerdlow, Glikbarg and Shimer, Beverly Hills, primarily handling business and real estate litigation. Tried first case in 1965 as a charitable volunteer: criminal defense in a hardware store burglary arising out of the 1965 Watts Riots. 1966-1969: Associate with Green, Simke and Lasher, Beverly Hills, handling diverse business and personal injury litigation. 1969-1971: Partner in Steinhart & Adelson, later Steinhart, Adelson and Fitzgerald, later Steinhart & Fitzgerald, near downtown Los Angeles, specializing in criminal defense litigation. Major case in this era was the infamous Charles Manson murder trial. Fitzgerald was the lead defense attorney, representing Patricia Krenwinkle, one of the three Manson girl defendants; Steinhart prepared all written motions and appellate writ petitions. 1971-1974: Sole proprietor of Law Offices of Terran T. Steinhart, Beverly Hills, then Los Angeles: general practice with special emphasis on business litigation. 1974-1981: Associate of music business lawyer, Martin Cohen, then partner in Cohen and Steinhart, Hollywood. Handled all of the entertainment litigation, trials and appeals, and did some music business transactional work. Handled litigation matters for various music producers, personal managers, private record labels, songwriters and artists, including artists of note: Frank Zappa, Tom Waits, Bobby Womack, Eric Burdon, George Duke, and John Mayall. The more memorable trials in this era include: representing Frank Zappa against Alice Cooper for breach of contract and unfair competition; representing Tom Waits against Los Angeles County for law enforcement abuse at Duke=s Restaurant (nicknamed by Tom, ADukeing it Out at Duke=s@). Another interesting case in this period was representing Keith Olson, the co-producer of the mega Fleetwood Mac album in the late 1970s, against the group for breach of contract. After taking the depositions of all five members of the group, we settled the case without trial, when their attorney telephoned me and said, "I'm going to make you an offer you can't refuse." He was right! 1981-present: Sole proprietor of Law Offices of Terran T. Steinhart, Beverly Hills, then Los Angeles. This era includes two high profile, media event, music copyright infringement jury trials: Goldberg vs. Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Tom Hayden, regarding Parton's hit song, ANine to Five@; Thompson vs. Lionel Richie, regarding Richie's hit songs, AStuck on You@ and ASela@.
